Hospital Care
Our goal is to provide our patients with comprehensive primary and secondary (specialist) care in an out-patient setting. Sometimes a patient must be hospitalized for surgery or other procedures that can only be done when a patient is in the hospital.
Although we have admitting privileges to UNC Hospitals, we have found that most in-patient care is best delivered by physicians who are based at the hospital. The hospitalist physicians are present in the hospital on a 24-hour basis with no out-patient responsibilities. We are fortunate in having a large number of hospital specialists available at UNC Hospitals, Duke University Medical Center, Duke Regional Hospital, Rex Hospital, etc.
Additionally, our GI doctors perform colonoscopies, sigmoidoscopies and endoscopies at the new UNC Health Care facility in Hillsborough. We will assist you in choosing an appropriate hospital specialist, and we will monitor your care by communicating with him/her.
If questions or problems during your hospitalization arise, we encourage you (or a member of your family) to contact your CHIM physician immediately. We believe that this system will enable our CHIM physicians to focus on the office practice without frequent emergency visits to and calls from the hospital, thus allowing our patients to make more timely appointments.
